Discovery, Growth, Life-changing – This was the last Edition of The Break

It’s a wrap! Last month, we completed the final edition of The Break Fellowship Program in Agaete, Gran Canaria. Who’s been following us knows that we had the pleasure to facilitate The Break four times in the past two years. We hosted 57 women entrepreneurs from 32 different countries in total, supporting them to develop their business, connecting them with local entrepreneurs and enabling them to discover Gran Canaria in a meaningful way.

The Break 4.0: Hosting the last 18 Breakers in Agaete

Each edition was very special in its own way, and it’s difficult to summarise the experience. Still, we wanted to know from our last Breakers: How would you describe The Break in one word? This is what they said:

As reflected in the video, the program encapsulated sentiments such as “incredible”, «gift”, “sisterhood” and “community”, marking an unforgettable journey of discovery, growth and life-changing experiences for the participating women entrepreneurs.

To summarise the impact of The Break, we want to let the women entrepreneurs speak for themselves: The following testimonials offer firsthand insights into our Breakers’ transformative experiences.

GROWTH: Michelle Coulson, Founder of Remote Rebellion

Michelle applied for The Break with the goal of enhancing her business and learning from other women entrepreneurs. During her first week, she initially felt a bit of discomfort being surrounded solely by women – something she wasn’t used to. However, as she got to know her fellow Breakers and embraced the communal living experience, a significant shift occurred: Michelle became more in touch with her emotions, gained more confidence in her business, and felt more comfortable in her own skin. The contrast with the predominantly male entrepreneurial world highlighted the importance of women doing business on their terms.

“A lot of the entrepreneurial world is full of men. And full of men doing it in a men’s way. Being surrounded by so many women has made me feel really comfortable in doing it our way, being in tune to business as a woman.”

In essence, Michelle’s one-word summary of her Break experience is «Growth,» encompassing both personal and professional development.

LIFE-CHANGING: Carla Rubino, Brand Ambassador at WomenX Impact

Carla’s journey at The Break was driven by a desire to challenge both herself and her project. Her expectations were to step out of her comfort zone, be inspired by remarkable women globally, and, in turn, inspire others. The experience proved to be truly life-changing for Carla. It compelled her to elevate her standards, test her limits, adopt an open-minded approach, and push her boundaries. The Italian loved exploring the digital nomad lifestyle in Agaete, just seconds away from the beach, and sharing moments with fellow participants, from kitchen activities to shared laughter. Carla also found special significance in connecting with the local community:

“Meeting local entrepreneurs meant to me to meeting true people that have been doing their best to improve the community they live in, with their artisan work, with their hands and with their amazing ideas.”

DISCOVERY: Victoria Stakelum, Founder of The Success Smith

As a mother of three children, a wife and a business owner, Victoria juggles many roles. Her decision to join The Break stemmed from a desire to focus on her business without distractions, while soaking up some Vitamin D. Eventually, Victoria found herself on a journey of self-discovery, reconnecting with aspects of herself that had been obscured by the demands of daily life.

“What I’ve got from this experience is things that I think I didn’t realize I needed. Being away from family life, being away from the role of wife and mother, and being on my own in a sense – living in kind of a community-shared setting – for the first time in twenty-five years or something, has been such a journey of self-discovery.”

Despite the unexpected diversions, Victoria managed to enhance her business, while enjoying the facilitated activities and deeply connecting with her fellow Breakers.

LIFE-CHANGING: Anna Karle, Founder of Plantastic Cakes

Anna needed a real break from the everyday hustle as a solo-entrepreneur. As she is the only entrepreneur among her family and friends at home, she was looking forward to meeting other women entrepreneurs and being part of a community. Like for Carla, the experience was truly life-changing for her, and exceeded her expectations. She particularly highlighted the great organisation:

“My experience with Pueblos Remotos was just the best. You could feel that Lara, Carlos, Elsa, everyone involved, everyone showed so much dedication, love and care, not only for us to have an amazing experience but also for their country.”

Initially feeling a bit hopeless with her business, Anna gained clarity on what she wants to change in her business, being fully motivated to put her plans into action. She also made life-long friendships, being formed through the many memorable moments shared, from surprise birthday parties to rooftop barbecues.

SPACE: Ioana Dodan, Founder of The Fab Lab

Ioana’s quest for space, both physical and introspective, led her to The Break. Initially, she wanted to get more clarity about her business, but the experience became a very personal journey, allowing her to delve into her own thoughts and heart. Instead of focusing on her business, she connected deeply with herself and nature, which in turn, would affect her professional decisions and clients positively.

“It has really impacted me as an individual, and I think this is going to have an impact – like a ripple effect – on the individuals I am going to work with.”

Highlights for Ioana were the ‘human professionalism’ of the facilitators, pitching on stage from her heart, starting and ending each day with a bath in the ocean, and most importantly, connecting with her fellow Breakers who she described as ‘pieces of light’.

A Community that Will Keep Making an Impact

In one collective word, The Break can be described as a transformative space that has empowered these women entrepreneurs to discover, grow, and embrace life-changing experiences, while forming life-long friendships.

As the program concludes, heartfelt gratitude is extended to all partners for contributing to the success of The Break Fellowship Program, fostering a community that will undoubtedly continue to inspire and support each other in their entrepreneurial endeavours.

For us from Pueblos Remotos, it has been a real pleasure to share so many experiences, knowledge, and feelings with the Breakers who have accompanied us.

Therefore, we want to say a huge thank you to them for being part of our project, and for continuing to teach us the ‘why’ behind what we do, through their smiles and human qualities.

See you soon!
